Cinsault Wine Information

The grape type cinsault, also spelled cinsaut, is planted primarily in France and South Africa but is found in a few other wine growing regions as well. Few people drink Cinsault as its own wine - it is typically used as a blending wine to add flavor to other wine types. It adds a mellow, fruity flavor.

Interestingly, in South Africa, Cinsault is known as "Hermitage". However, in the French Hermitage wine, they do not use any Cinsault.

Cinsault was crossed with pinot noir in South Africa to create Pinotage - one of their more famous wines.
